7th Concert
Plaça Nova
El Vendrell
Holding a free, open-air concert has become a tradition at the Pau Casals International Music Festival in El Vendrell. The performances take place with the statue of Pablo Casals in the background, a sculpture by Josep Viladomat.
Link to the concert summary produced by Radio Televisión del Vendrell. The video contains short clips of the musical performances as well as the opinions of various attendees who highly value the celebration of the popular concert. There are two reasons to celebrate the popular outdoor concert. The first is to fulfil Pablo Casals' wish that access to high-quality classical music should not be reserved only for those who could attend grand theatres. The second reason is to commemorate the popular concert that Pablo Casals gave in El Vendrell on July 27, 1927. The choice of venue for the concert is not accidental; it is the same place where Casals gave the 1927 concert. A concert that was part of the events honouring Pablo Casal, events arranged by the Vendrell City Council and the Pau Casals Orchestra. Additional information:
Manlleu (Barcelona), March 23, 1899 – Escaldes-Engordany (Andorra), June 2, 1989. He admired the masters of the Italian Renaissance, Baroque imagery, and the work of sculptors Aristide Maillol (1861-1944) and Manolo Hugué (1872-1945). María Dolores García Martínez
